From MVMA By-law 6 Continuing Education:
All members must complete 15 (fifteen) hours of Continuing Education (CE) every Accumulation Period. An Accumulation Period is a single calendar year (January 1 to December 31). CE is defined as a scientific or non-scientific program that can be justified to be within the scope of veterinary practice. During the 2010 transition year in which this By-law 6 is amended, all members are required to complete 10 hours of CE due by December 31, 2010. Any additional hours earned in 2010 can be carried forward. All members will be required to complete 15 CE hours during the 2011 accumulation period and all subsequent annual accumulation periods.
Speakers who have been secured by the MVMA are identified as an "MVMA Inspired Speaker". All other CE has been posted for member benefit - the MVMA has no affiliation or interests in opportunities promoted on this site, unless stated.

Dr. Rist, DVM, Dipl.ACVR will review his technique for performing complete abdominal, thyro-parathyroid and non-cardiac thoracic ultrasound examinations. This didactic review will also utilize projected live scanning to provide all attendees an unobstructed view of the ultrasound images. Subsequently he will provide a comprehensive review of the most common ultrasonographic abnormalities of the abdomen, thorax and neck region using a series of case presentations, ultrasound images and video clips.
Discussions will be intermixed throughout the two days, are open forums and will cover question and answer sessions, problem solving for technical and diagnostic issues and integration of pattern recognition for accurate diagnoses.
Cost: $995.00 CAD plus applicable taxes per participant

Born in Slidell, Louisiana, Dr. Rist graduated from the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. He completed an internship at the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2002 and his radiology residency at University of Florida in 2005. He was a faculty radiologist at Oregon State University from 2005-2007. He started his own mobile ultrasound service, Maritime Veterinary Imaging, in 2008 and continues to provide that service in addition to holding a position as locum radiologist at the Atlantic Veterinary College.

The MVMA is pleased to announce we’ve been successful in securing recent 2010 CVMA award winner, Dr. Susan Little, as a speaker for one day this November.
Dr. Susan Little received her BSc from Dalhousie University (Nova Scotia, Canada) in 1983 and her DVM in 1988 from the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph. She has been in feline practice since 1990 and achieved specialty board certification in Feline Practice in 1997, re-certifying in 2006.
She is part owner of two feline specialty practices in Ottawa, Canada. She serves on the board of the Winn Feline Foundation, and is a feline medicine consultant for the Veterinary Information Network (VIN). In 2010, Dr. Little was the recipient of the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association’s Small Animal Practitioner Award.

Dr. Wendy Vaala graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a B.S. in Pre-Veterinary Medicine. She received her V.M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine and completed an internship in large animal medicine and surgery followed by a residency in large animal medicine at New Bolton Center. She remained on staff at New Bolton Center, University of Pennsylvania, as a lecturer then Assistant Professor of Medicine until 1996. She organized the development of neonatal intensive care programs and high risk
pregnancy programs for mares at two different equine facilities. In October, 2004 Dr. Vaala joined Intervet, Inc. as an Equine Technical Service Specialist.
In addition to general equine internal medicine, Dr. Vaala’s special interests are equine neonatology, perinatology and ophthalmology.
