At Central Vet, our mission is to improve the lives of people and animals. We believe in the power of the human animal bond, providing a safe and supportive work environment and ensuring a culture of continuous improvement where everyone is supported in becoming their best selves. We hope you consider taking this opportunity to build a reputable career with Central Vet and join our progressive and supportive team.
Position details:
About the position: This position is for a DVM interested in covering small animal medicine shifts including wellness and urgent care appointments. Standard small animal medicine shifts are 10 hours in length and include 2.5 hours of resource/lunch breaks. Veterinarians or new graduates interested in taking 2 to 3 shifts a week, including one in four Saturdays, are encouraged to apply.
Meaningful work: We strive to provide training and facilitate caseloads in the areas where your passion exists – we want to help you develop a fulfilling veterinary career, doing more of what you enjoy every day.
Compensation: The base salary offered will depend on experience and part-time status, as well as other factors that we are open to negotiating. Performance and production-based compensation, in addition to base salary, is also available.
Benefits: Benefits for DVMs include vacation accrual starting at 6% (equivalent to 3 weeks if full time), paid personal leave accruing at 2% (equivalent of one week if full time), and paid time for employer supported volunteering activities.
Continuing education is encouraged with yearly paid time off and allowance.
As part of our core benefits package for all Central Vet employees, health insurance and RRSP contributions are available. Employee-owned pet discounts and yearly credit on account for products and services are provided. A clothing allowance, plus uniforms, are also included in our standard benefits package.
A supportive team environment: Onboarding programs for all Central Vet team members include training in technical skills and life skills, resulting in stronger teams that help each other reach a higher potential. Along with focused leadership at every level, a robust online internal communication system also exists. These systems help us stay connected and supported through important clinic updates, shared encouragement, and positive news, as well as providing an avenue for feedback, questions, and concerns to be addressed.
Growth and Development: As a member of our team, the opportunity to grow and develop within the clinic, and outside the clinic, always exists. This means the potential to add other areas of practice such as surgery shifts and/or large animal shifts in our clinic are a possibility into the future for any successful candidate. Alternatively, support is given in holding other positions outside our clinic to meet various areas of personal interest.
Mentorship and continued support are important to us. We have a large team with 9 veterinarians of varying interests and expertise to share their experiences. The training period is structured, with one-on-one support, transitioning to frequent check ins and open lines of communication with a team lead and leadership team that are all eager to see every Central Vet team member succeed.
The Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for veterinarians who enjoy preventative and urgent care for dogs and cats in small animal medicine. Those who get excited about helping people strengthen the bond they share with their pet through the art of veterinary medicine are encouraged to apply. Wanting to be a part of a culture of continuous improvement, strong teamwork skills and an ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships will also be important.
Successful candidates will be able to provide services in small animal medicine, be open to working every 4th Saturday, and able to commit to at least 2 shifts weekly.
Advanced experience or specialized certification in areas such as behaviour, sport medicine/rehab, senior, geriatric, and palliative care, or integrative medicine such as acupuncture, laser therapy, nutrition, chiropractic, or herbal medicine is not required but would be considered an asset.
An ideal candidate will be excited by the idea of being part of something bigger! Where impact extends past clinic walls and beyond the traditional scope of the veterinary-client-patient relationship by our meaningful interactions with our fellow team members, and the clients and communities we serve.
