  • Degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from an educational institute accredited by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association, or successful completion of the North American Licensing Exam (NAVLE) and other pre-requisite exams required to obtain a full license to practice in Manitoba.
  • Experience conducting necropsy examinations in a laboratory environment.
  • Experience assessing animal diagnostic tests (e.g. histology) and interpreting findings.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to work efficiently maintain turnaround times and coordinate multiple tests within tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills used to effectively interact with a range of individuals, share information and handle matters with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook.


  • Experience developing laboratory policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in areas of veterinary medicine other than anatomic pathology. 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Manitoba, or eligible for full licensure with the ability to attain prior to hire.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays when emergencies dictate.
  • Must provide satisfactory criminal record check.
  • ACVP (American College of Veterinary Pathologists) board certification or eligibility for certification.


This position in the Veterinary Diagnostic Services (VDS) Laboratory is a diagnostic pathologist considered a provincial specialist responsible for the provision of anatomical and histopathological diagnosis of diseases in animals.  This would include work related to food producing, poultry, wild, exotic and companion animals.
