Veterinarian Wanted - Winnipeg Humane Society

The successful candidate will join a team of 3 other veterinarians and 18 other clinic staff at the WHS veterinary clinic.  The WHS is comprised of over 100 employees and many more volunteers who are dedicated to protecting animals from suffering and promoting their welfare and dignity. The successful applicant needs to be an enthusiastic team member who will work towards the WHS vision and practice exemplary medicine.
 
The clinic has digital radiography, digital dental radiography, in house blood machine, tonopen and pulse oximeters with capnograph. Our clinic practices Fear Free handling on all our patients and we have a behaviour department to assist when needed.  We perform over 7000 spay/neuters per year as well as various other soft tissue and orthopedic procedures. The Winnipeg Humane Society adopts out around 4000 pets per year.  The WHS clinic works closely with the other departments at the shelter to get animals healthy and ready for adoption. We also provide low cost spay/neuter services for low income members of the public. We are striving to implement the guidelines of Capacity 4 Care at our Humane Society.
Qualifications:

  1. A Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree.
  2. Currently licensed to practice veterinary medicine with the Manitoba Veterinary Medical Association or eligible for licensing.
  3. At least 1 year of surgical experience is an asset but not a requirement.
  4. Enjoys a high volume, fast paced environment.
  5. Excels at working as part of a team.
  6. Prior shelter experience is an asset but not a requirement.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Perform high volume spay/neuter surgeries.
  • Perform various other soft tissue surgeries.
  • Perform dental procedures including extractions.
  • Perform medical examination of ill animals and determine treatment.
  • Record medical notes and treatment instructions in computer system.
  • Perform examination and documentation of any seized animals in preparation of possible court case.
  • Supervise and mentor students and volunteers learning the art of Veterinary Medicine.
  • Conduct or supervise humane euthanasia of animals
  •  Reports to the Director of Veterinary Services.
