The successful applicant will join the team of 3 veterinarians, 6 veterinary technologists and the rest of the dedicated shelter staff. This job is diverse and fast-paced with a lot of variety and opportunity for growth within the career.  We offer the best in veterinary medicine for animals in our care, pets belonging to low-income community members and pets living in remote areas of Manitoba.  The WHS works closely with other Manitoba rescues, the City of Winnipeg Animal Services, and the Government of Manitoba Chief Veterinary Officer.

WHS performs over 6000 surgical procedures a year (spay/neuter, soft tissue, dentistry, orthopedic) and surgery is only ½ of what we do.  We have in-house digital radiography, digital dental radiography, in-house blood machine, Tono-Pen, 3 surgery suites and a dental suite. We treat dogs, cats and exotics pets with a Fear Free approach, individual consideration, and exemplary veterinary medicine.

• Your in-depth knowledge and experience providing emergency care, soft tissue surgical procedures, preventative medicine expertise, dental procedures, high quality medicine;
• Your enthusiasm and commitment to working in a fun, fast-paced environment focusing on fear free handling, community support and animal welfare;

• Your exceptional communication skills and commitment to a high ethical standard;

• A strong desire to educate and build solid relationships with clients.

What we’re looking for:
• Valid DVM license with the MVMA (or eligible to be licensed);
• At least one year of small animal surgical experience is an asset but not a requirement. Interest in surgery is a must;
• Excels at working as part of a team;
• Prior shelter experience is an asset but not a requirement.
