The Winnipeg Humane Society is offering a unique and rewarding opportunity for a qualified candidate(s) who wants to experience the rewards of shelter medicine and perform high volume spay/neuter surgeries.
The Winnipeg Humane Society is well established and one of the most progressive animal welfare establishments in Canada. Our mission is to protect all animals from suffering and to promote their welfare and dignity. The successful applicant will join the team of 3 veterinarians, 6 veterinary technologists and the rest of the dedicated shelter staff. We have 3 surgery tables and a dental suite and generally perform 30-35 surgical procedures each morning. We offer basic and advanced veterinary care for animals in our care and pets belonging to low-income community members as well as veterinary care for pets living in remote areas of Manitoba. We perform over 6000 surgical procedures a year.
The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about surgery, has a desire to help and give back to our community and has a willingness to work in a face-paced environment toward a great cause. Most of our surgeries are cats and dogs, but we do see exotic and pocket pets as well. Most of our booked surgeries are spay and neuter surgeries but there is no shortage of soft-tissue, dental, orthopaedic, and emergency surgeries.
This position is a morning surgical shift. We do an extensive number of surgeries allowing us to be flexible with your current work schedule if you are looking to supplement your hours and log some time in the OR and take a step back from client interaction. The shifts are 4 hours and we have Monday to Friday available.
- DVM and currently licensed with the MVMA.
- At least one year of small animal surgical experience and an interest in performing a high volume of surgical procedures is a requirement.
- Excels at working as part of a team.
