About Membership Information

MVMA Student Veterinarian Membership

You may be eligible for an MVMA Student Veterinarian Membership if you are currently enrolled in a CVMA or AVMA accredited program.

Student membership with the MVMA is optional; however, you are required to obtain membership if you are working, volunteering, or otherwise providing veterinary service through a PIPS inspected Practice (this includes veterinary clinics, hospitals and ambulatory practices).

  • Please note that you may be required to provide proof of your enrollment at a CVMA or AVMA accredited program.

Once an application decision has been made, you will be notified via email.

Your Student Membership will expire one month after you graduate from your CVMA or AVMA accredited program.

Once you have obtained a Student Veterinarian Membership, you must notify the MVMA of the following:

  • Any Student Practice Experiences (for more information, please see below)
  • Changes to any of the information that you provided on your application, including:
    • Contact information
    • Name change
    • Change in enrollment status at reported CVMA or AVMA accredited school

Student Practice Experience

Each time a Student Veterinarian Member works, volunteers or otherwise provides veterinary service through a PIPS Inspected Practice (this includes veterinary clinics, hospitals and ambulatory practices), the student must notify the MVMA.

  • To notify the MVMA of a Student Practice Experience, please complete the online Student Veterinarian Practice Experience Form
    • Please note that the student is required to sign the completed form and the supervising veterinarian will be contacted to confirm the practice experience.
    • Please note that you must provide an end date for the Student Practice Experience

Student Veterinarian Member Practice in Manitoba

When practising veterinary medicine in Manitoba, each Student Veterinarian Member must practice under the Direct Supervision of a veterinarian licensed in Manitoba.

Students in their final year of study may practice under the Direct Supervision or Indirect Supervision of a veterinarian licensed in Manitoba.

Student Veterinarian Member Expiration

Following your graduation from a CVMA or AVMA accredited program, you must obtain practising membership with the MVMA in order to practice veterinary medicine in Manitoba. For more information about the membership process, please click here.
